The Area Jeune Ballet (AJB) will soon be working under the direction of the renowned choreographer Jose Agudo, who will create especially for the company, the piece Sam. Sam will be presented mid-March 2018 in Geneva, then on other scenes in Switzerland and abroad.

Award-winning and internationally renowned director of his own company in London and ballet master for the Akram Khan Company, Jose Agudo is a strong figure in the new contemporary choreographic trend.

Currently creating numerous pieces all over the world, Jose Agudo has formed according to the latest trends that combine solid foundations of Ballet with a Contemporary look at deeply human and timeless subjects.

A piece on a current topic

Sam is inspired by samsāra (“cycle of life” or “migration” in Sanskrit) and sam (“starting point” in Indian music). It revolves around the idea of the passage, of the change of state, and addresses, in filigree, the current problematic of the movements of populations. Carrying a timeless message inspiring and hopeful, it is aimed at a wide audience, although it is particularly aimed at the younger generations, who are the first to be concerned by this issue.

“A contemporary work, for a timeless message …”

A work intended to radiate in Switzerland and abroad

Created in Geneva, Sam will enrich the cultural offer of the city. The premiere will be presented at the Arts Center of the International School of Geneva, from March 16 to 18, 2018. Then on other occasions, in Switzerland and abroad (Italy, England, etc.), as part of festivals, cultural programs or private events. The piece will also be presented in Geneva in May 2019, during the second edition of the International Youth Ballets Festival.

A strong experience for young dancers… and for the population!

Thanks to this collaboration with Jose Agudo, the dancers of the Area Jeune Ballet will gain access to a world-renowned and admired contemporary dance technique: that of the famous choreographer Akram Khan! They will live all phases of the creation of a show, from the initial phase to its presentation on stage. This experience will also allow them to make valuable new contacts for their professional future.

A mediation program will be organized around Sam to reach a wide audience. Actions will be put in place for seniors in EMS and dance workshops will allow amateurs and students from local dance schools to benefit from this creative energy.

The ballet’s repertoire expands

Sam will be added to the repertoire of the AJB, which already has ten pieces. All were created by renowned international choreographers. In a rigorous and aesthetic contemporary style, they have conquered the public by their rigor, their intensity and the emotion they convey.
